Instructions for Submission to the Japanese Journal of Rural Economics

Article 1. Purpose
The purpose of these Instructions is to provide requirements for the submission of manuscripts to the Japanese Journal of Rural Economics (hereinafter referred to as the JJRE).
Article 2. Types of Manuscripts
The types of manuscripts that can appear in the JJRE include Articles, Research Letters, and other material specifically permitted by the Editorial Committee according to the editorial policy. Articles may also include manuscripts submitted in response to requests by the JJRE Editorial Committee.

  1. The Articles shall be those papers describing theoretical or empirical research outcomes related to the agricultural economy that are found to be academically creative, novel and useful.
  2. The Research Letters shall be those papers describing theoretical or empirical research outcomes related to the agricultural economy based on individual presentations from the annual meeting sponsored by the Agricultural Economics Society of Japan (hereinafter referred to as the “Society”) that are found to be academically novel and useful.
Article 3. Eligibility for Submission
  1. The first and the corresponding authors of the manuscript shall be members of the Society, except in cases otherwise specifically permitted by the JJRE Editorial Committee.
  2. Notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, non-members of the Society are permitted to submit Articles, subject to the payment of publication charges when the manuscript is accepted for publication. The publication charges applicable to non-members shall be as set forth in the Detailed Instructions for Submission to the JJRE (hereinafter referred to as the Detailed Instructions).
  3. Publication charges as set out in the Detailed Instructions are applied to the Research Letters. The amount of a charge shall be approved by the Board of Directors.
Article 4. Requirement for Manuscripts
Manuscripts already submitted to or published in other academic journals, etc. shall not be accepted.
Article 5. Length of Manuscripts
A manuscript submitted for the Articles shall be no more than 40 pages including figures, double spaced (28 lines per page, 10 to 15 words per line) on A4-size paper at the time of the initial submission.
Research Letters shall in principle be 4 pages long, and 6 pages at the maximum, in accordance with the format prescribed in the Detailed Instructions. A manuscript submitted for the Research Letters with 3 pages or less in length shall not be accepted.
Article 6. Copyrights
Ownership and other issues related to copyrights to the works appearing in the JJRE shall be as set forth in the Rules on Copyrights of the Agricultural Economics Society of Japan.
Article 7. Language
Manuscripts shall be written in English.
Article 8. Manuscript Formats
The formats of manuscripts shall be as set forth in the Detailed Instructions.
Article 9. Submission Process
The manuscript shall be prepared in accordance with the Detailed Instructions, converted into PDF format, and submitted as an attachment to an e-mail. Upon submission, the submission sheet downloaded from the website of the Society, converted into PDF format, shall be sent together with the manuscript to the e-mail address: agri-eco@capj.or.jp
Article 10. Date of Receipt of Manuscript
The date of receipt of the manuscript shall be the date on which the manuscript is delivered to the JJRE Editorial Committee.
Article 11. Judgment on Whether to Accept a Manuscript for Publication
Whether to accept a manuscript for publication shall be determined by the JJRE Editorial Committee in accordance with the Guidelines for Refereeing the Manuscripts Submitted to the JJRE.
Article 12. Date of Acceptance of Manuscript
The date of acceptance of a manuscript shall be the date on which the JJRE Editorial Committee judges the manuscript to be acceptable for publication.
Article 13. Proofreading by Author(s)
The author is allowed to read the proofs only once. The author may not delete or make any addition or modification to the manuscript other than correction of typographical errors without special permission from the JJRE Editorial Committee.
Article 14. Offprints
If a manuscript is accepted for publication, copies of the offprint will be prepared. The details of such offprints shall be as set forth in the Detailed Instructions.
Article 15. Amendment
These Instructions shall be laid down by the Editorial Committee, and shall be amended with the approval of the Board of Directors and the general meeting. The amendment shall be publicized in the JJRE and on the Society’s website.
Supplementary Provision
These Instructions shall take effect as of April 1, 2003.

Supplementary Provisions

  1. These Instructions shall be applied to the manuscripts submitted to Articles and Research Letters on or after November 1, 2014.
  2. Regardless of the above paragraph, these instructions shall be applied to the English manuscripts accepted to the Journal of Rural Economics, Special Issue 2014 as Research Letters in the JJRE.
